Alex M. Banta, MSW, LISW-S is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory designation. Ms. Banta works with those who reports feeling “stuck” or “lost” individually or within relationships. She works with adults and teens (16-18yrs) presenting with concerns related to anxiety or mood disturbances, trauma, grief/bereavement, and self-esteem. Her goal is to support her clients toward realizing their full potential and achieve harmonious balance internally and externally. Ms. Banta finds great professional fulfillment observing her clients place trust in themselves and honor their own experiences.
Ms. Banta also supports couples and individuals with relationship concerns. Her relationship expertise supports her work with those presenting concerns related to monogamous relationships (long/short-term, marital/premarital), ethical nonmonogamy, relationship conflict, infidelity, and sexual dysfunction. Her goal in working with couples is to help them find a healthy space in which to love each other and move beyond harmful relationship patterns.
Ms. Banta’s clinical style is grounded in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Strength-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused approaches, Eye-Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Family Systems Therapy (FST).
Ms. Banta completed her Bachelor of Applied Health Science (B.A.) in Human Development & Family Studies (Minors in Human Sexuality, Counseling, & Sociology) from Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, Indiana. She went on to obtain her Master of Social Work from Indiana University with a concentration in Mental Health. Ms. Banta’s graduate level experiences included serving as a teaching and research assistant and curriculum development.
Ms. Banta joined CWW with broad clinical experiences working with diverse populations in full spectrum family medicine centers, private practice, and at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). Ms. Banta has held several leadership positions and appointments over her career including Board Member for the Indiana Society for Social Work Leaders in Healthcare, co-chair of Social Work Strategic Partners at NCH, and aided in development and implementation of global course offerings through IU. In addition to her extensive clinical supervisory experience, she is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers. Ms. Banta is a sought-out expert in her field and has served as a contributor for Fortune, Time, Newsweek, HuffPost, Yahoo News, Verywell Mind, and Upworthy.
