Maureen A. Owens is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation (LISW-S) who provides practical and client-centered support to her clients. In addition to her clinical expertise in working with middle to older adult women, Ms. Owens is equipped with an extensive medical background as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP). As both a therapist and a nurse, Ms. Owens uses a trauma-informed, holistic perspective in her clinical approach. This combined training is especially helpful when there are complex medical problems or related issues that can affect one’s sense of well-being.
Ms. Owens works with adults experiencing hormonal changes (menopause, fertility treatment,) depression, anxiety, life transition stress, life stage adjustment, chronic health conditions, terminal illness, caregiver stress, and grief/loss, and trauma.
Ms. Owens applies a combination of evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), creative arts therapies, and the complementary therapy of energy work. Ms. Owens eclectic style supports her belief that offering choices and varied approaches, she is able to create a safe, comfortable, and secure environment where clients feel heard and validated. This in turn creates a foundation where healing can begin.
Ms. Owens received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Akron and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) from Case Western Reserve University in Clevland, Ohio. She has extensive experience working in a variety of settings including outpatient community health, public health, for private health clinics, and hospitals. Her experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a family planning clinic working with adolescent and adult patients with a focus on women’s health helps her current therapeutic work in women’s behavioral health. Prior to joining CWW, Ms. Owens provided behavioral health services in private practice.
